Momming is hard.
Capsules make it easier.

Placenta pills? Yep, they're a thing...

and a pretty amazing one at that. Before you raise an eyebrow, let’s talk about how the process works, why the method matters, and why so many moms are obsessed.

ENCAPSULATION 101

THE METHOD

Traditional Chinese Medicine + The Power of Heat

For centuries, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has used heat therapy as a way to restore balance, promote healing, and bring energy back into the body. Placenta encapsulation, when done through the TCM method, follows this same principle - gently steaming the placenta with warming herbs before dehydration. Our practice is based on this method.

According to TCM, pregnancy and birth are considered "cooling" experiences, meaning they deplete the body’s internal warmth. This can leave new mothers feeling weak, fatigued, and emotionally drained. By applying heat to the placenta, we’re restoring warmth and replenishing energy, which is believed to support a smoother recovery.

Ginger – A warming root that improves circulation, reduces inflammation, and supports digestion.

Lemon – Helps balance pH levels and cleanse the body while adding a subtle detoxifying effect.

Chili – Enhances circulation and strengthens the body's natural warmth.

Why Use Ginger, Lemon, + Chili?

In TCM, foods are categorized by their energetic properties, cooling, neutral, and warming. The postpartum period is a time when warming foods are needed most.

Together, these ingredients create an ideal balance for postpartum recovery, gently supporting hormonal regulation, immune function, and energy restoration.

Does Heat Destroy Nutrients?

No. While excessive heat can break down some nutrients, the steaming process in placenta encapsulation is gentle and controlled, ensuring that vital hormones, minerals, and vitamins remain intact. Additionally, steaming provides an extra layer of safety by eliminating bacteria while maintaining all the benefits your placenta has to offer.

This method has been trusted for centuries, and today, many mothers find that it helps provide the smoothest postpartum recovery possible.

THE PROCESS

How Your Placenta Becomes Capsules

01

Placenta Pick Up

As soon as your baby is born, your placenta is carefully stored in the sterilized cooler I provide. You’ll let me know when labor begins and when the placenta is ready for pickup. From there, I transport it directly to my dedicated lab space, which is set up exclusively for placenta encapsulation - not a kitchen, not a shared space, but a professional environment designed for safety.

02

Sanitation + Preparation

Before encapsulation begins, your placenta goes through a thorough sanitation and safety process.
  • The work surfaces, tools, and equipment are sterilized before and after every encapsulation using hospital-grade disinfectants that eliminate bacteria, viruses, and pathogens.
  • I follow strict OSHA, APPA, and CA Food Handlers guidelines to ensure proper handling, wearing gloves, masks, and using separate tools for each placenta.
  • Your placenta is carefully inspected, rinsed, and cleaned to remove any excess blood or debris.

03

The Traditional Method

The placenta is gently steamed with warming ingredients (ginger, lemon, and chili) before dehydration. This enhances bioavailability while neutralizing bacteria, making it safe and ready for processing.

04

Dehydration + Grinding

The steamed placenta is placed in a dehydrator at a controlled temperature for 10 to 12 hours. This allows the moisture to be removed while retaining the placenta’s key nutrients.
Once fully dried, it is ground into a fine powder and carefully placed into your chosen capsules.

05

Packaging + Delivery

Your capsules are packaged in an airtight, labeled container, complete with dosage recommendations and storage instructions. If you've chosen additional keepsakes, such as a placenta tincture, umbilical cord keepsake, or prints, they’re also included in your order.
Within 48 to 72 hours, your package is ready for pickup or hand delivery.
At this point, your placenta is no longer just an organ, it’s a postpartum powerhouse ready to support you through your recovery.

06

Postpartum Support + Follow Up

Placenta encapsulation isn’t just about handing over capsules, it’s about ensuring you feel supported in your postpartum journey. After delivery, I’ll check in to see how you’re feeling and answer any questions about dosage, storage, or anything else placenta related.
You’ll also receive a care guide with tips on how to get the most out of your capsules, when to take them, and how to store them long term if needed.
I love hearing how moms feel after taking their placenta capsules, so don’t be shy about sharing your experience! Your feedback helps me continue to offer the best support possible.
